Designers are often tempted to overcomplicate. Sometimes the strongest solution is restraint.
When I was asked to revamp the Friends of Austin Animal Shelter identity, the goal was clarity and connection over decoration. I centered the system around a simple, recognizable mark using familiar animal “faces” integrated directly into the logotype, making the brand instantly approachable and easy to remember.
From there, I built a visual language rooted in bold, clean typography and a bright, optimistic color palette. Subtle patterns add texture without distraction, reinforcing a sense of warmth, care, and safety.
The result is a friendly, flexible identity that feels human, welcoming, and grounded in its purpose.
